Indiana-Kentucky Synod, ELCA

Diakonia is a Christian adult education program offered in the Indiana-Kentucky Synod and other synods throughout the ELCA. Classes cover theological topics such as the Bible, Christian Ethics, Christian Doctrine, Practical Ministry and others. Together, students and teachers work to discover the richness and depth of God’s word as revealed in these disciplines.

There are currently two programs on offer in the Indiana-Kentucky Synod. North Central Indiana is offering traditional, on-site meetings. The Indianapolis Conference is testing online classes offered via Zoom, a conferencing software. Classes have begun for 2017. Look below for more information.

Indianapolis Conference

The Indianapolis Diakonia program launched a “beta” program for online learning in September that went quite well. We will continue to pilot the program over the next year. In addition, we’ll be doing research with students and local pastors to assess best meeting times/learning options, and viability of this program in our conference. At present, each class meets once a week for three hours.

We’re currently seeking Zoom instructors and students for the following classes: Daily Life of a Christian, Lutheran Creeds and Confessions, Practical Ministry II and Christian Ethics. For this years tentative schedule, click here. Note that these classes will be offered based on interest and instructor availability. Instructors and students from programs across the country are all welcome to participate.
